Millions of visitors arrive in Washington, D.C. each spring to admire the 3,500 trees in full bloom on the National Mall during the National Cherry Blossom Festival. The cherry trees and their treasured blossoms are a living symbols of friendship and diplomacy between the U.S. and Japan dating back to 1912.

In 2025, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) announced that DAR is making a transformative $2 million gift to the nation as the foundational Legacy Leader of the Cherry Tree Endowment. Learn more
